Population change in brief

  • The number of young children constant for foreseeable future
  • 11% fewer teenagers by 2020
  • 11% more twenty somethings in ten years
  • 11% fewer thirty somethings in 10 years
  • Small rise of 40-49 year olds for five years, then 14% fall by 2020
  • Nearly a fifth more people in their 50s by 2020
  • Half as many again in their 60s by 2031
  • 50% more 70 year olds by 2031
  • By 2031, three quarters more 80 year olds, two thirds more 90 year olds, and five times as many centenarians
  • Overall population up by 10% by 2031
