In today's competitive business environment, the ability to present yourself successfully is absolute vital for success. Our Guru Liz Banks is Managing Director of Skillstudio Ltd - one of the leading communication & presentation skills training specialists in the UK.

Skillstudio has trained senior executives from many of the UK's top firms including Tesco, Shell, BT, P&O, and of course, Bank of Scotland. It has no set syllabus and very few rigid rules. Instead it tailors each session to the needs of the individuals involved. The company philosophy is to create a safe environment in which you can try things out for yourself and then choose what works best for you.

They run public courses, in-house training and one to one coaching sessions. Areas of particular expertise include:

  • Vocal skills
  • Elocution and accent softening
  • Public speaking & presenting
  • Non verbal communication
  • Body language awareness
  • Interview technique
  • Interpersonal skills

The effect of such sessions can be profound. As one recent trainee put it "...the course was outstanding, providing a toolkit of techniques to improve presentation content and delivery. It focussed on delivery, not use of PowerPoint, room set up etc... I truly believe that this course added significant value to me personally."

Last Issue's Winner

A hearty thank you to Peter Calvert, company accountant at Grimsby-based tank manufacturer Ian Flockton Developments, for his winning entry to our last guru competition.

Peter wrote, 'Pay your quarterly Vat bill by ddr. That way the money is not taken until another 10 days have elapsed from due date.' Cash flow is always tight at the end of the quarter.

With his wise advice you can defer a large chunk of expenditure to the middle of the next month.

Peter, your Victorinox Swissmemory Knife is on its way.
